Ralph Lauren has been appointed as the official apparel supplier by the US team since 2008. In this year's Olympic Games Tokyo, Ralph Lauren showed the uniform for the opening ceremony of the US team, which boasted the brand-new wearable technology RL COOLING and brought a self-regulated cooling device to cope with the heat in Tokyo. The flag-holder of US team will wear the innovative uniform at the opening ceremonies of Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Wearable technology RL COOLING self-adjustable cooling
The right side of the uniform looks like an ordinary blazer, and the back side is installed with special batteries. Athletes wear them as if they had their own air conditioner through the combination of emerging technology and clothes. The RL COOLING system in uniforms boasts the same cooling technology as the world's most advanced computer. The uniform applies a sophisticated device to monitor body temperature. It also uses the built-in micro-controller and adjusts to an optimal level to dissipate heat from the wearer's skin. When the user presses the button, he/she will feel air conditioner or electric fan at his/her back but actually the sense of breezing. It will let them feel cool in a long time, even in a hot environment.
The brand first released Ralph Lauren heating coat in Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, leading the development of the emerging human body temperature management system. A study from the Advanced Research Projects Agency of the United States Department of Energy shows that if the popularization of portable and personal human body temperature management schemes achieves, it will decrease reliance on large and high-energy refrigeration systems such as air conditioning systems for personal comfort.
Take perpetual materials
In addition to RL COOLING technology, the uniforms are also integrated with perpetual materials, which are all made in the United States and permeated with classic American style, including Navy blue American wool blazer and striped T-shirt with ECOFAST™ Pure, which adopted pre-treatment scheme of chemical company Dow. Both blazer and T-shirt save the dosage of water resources, chemicals and energy in the cotton dyeing process; Certified printed scarves, shoes and masks made of cotton made in the United States; Repreve ® recycled polyester striped belt from PET bottle, and close-fitting jeans with MIRUM ® cloth stamp on the back. The innovative substitute leather MIRUM ® is made from renewable resources and free of synthetic plastics.
